If Rappers could Rule the world,
If Rappers could Rule the world,
Hey there! How did your Wednesday go? And most importantly, are you enjoying the blog? If you have any thoughts about it, feel free to leave a comment here!
Well, one day my friend and I were discussing how life isn’t working out the way we want it to — about the hardships we’re currently facing and so on. Then my friend said, “As someone once said, ‘The future is gonna be okay!’ So don’t worry!”
I asked, “Who said that?”
My friend replied, “Well, one of my favorite artists said it, so I’m passing it on to you.”
I said, “Well, you haven’t answered my question yet.”
Then she whispered in my ear, “It’s BTS’s Suga.”
If you ask who can write rap music — the answer is simple: anyone can, regardless of gender, race, or ethnicity. Eminem, for example, broke the stereotype that only Black people could do hip-hop by becoming the first widely recognized white rapper in history.
But can everyone actually rap? The answer is: only if you’re skilled enough to truly play with words.
What movies usually show is that rapping is only about dissing an opponent. But that’s not true at all. Rap can be used to convey any type of message — emotional, motivational, or even something that ignites your inner fire.
For me, as someone new to hip-hop, I follow BTS, and the three GOATs — RM, Suga, and J-Hope — have shown me that rap can be executed in so many different ways.
A rapper is often known for calling out not only people who wrong them, but also those who do wrong to society. For example, the legendary Kendrick Lamar is famous for his powerful “Super Bowl” performance, and Rihanna is celebrated for empowering women through her music. Rappers also sometimes call out illegal practices in politics or social issues — things we might not notice at first, but that become clear once we pay attention to the lyrics.
Okay, that’s enough for today! Now I want to know — what’s a lyric written by your favorite rapper that really motivated you?
For me, one of my favorites is: “If you feel like you’re going to crash, then accelerate more, you idiot!” (부딪힐 것 같으면 더 세게 밟아 임마) from the track Nevermind by BTS . Huh, that does sound a bit harsh! But honestly, it hits differently if you take it in a positive way.
So, see you next week! ✨
